Bring your writing with you
You can try Plebos with an existing archive. Keep your original files and check the result before making the move permanent.
1. Get your export
Download an archive from your current publishing service. Plebos accepts these formats:
- Substack: its publication export ZIP.
- Medium: its account export ZIP. This importer reads posts, not followers or separate email-list exports.
- Ghost: its content export JSON.
- WordPress: its WXR XML export.
These names identify supported file formats. Plebos is an independent service and is not affiliated with those providers.
2. Import into your publication
Sign in, open your publication’s Settings, and find Bring your writing with you. Select the source and upload its export file. Plebos is currently invite-only; request an invite if you need an account.
Previously published posts can become visible in your archive as they import. The import does not send them as new newsletters or new federation announcements. Drafts and restricted posts are handled according to the source data; review their visibility before sharing your new site.
3. Read the import report
The report lists imported and skipped posts, failed items, media that could not be copied, and any subscriber processing. Check dates, formatting, embeds, images, and access restrictions on representative posts. Keep the original service available while you resolve missing items.
Imports do not automatically transfer every follower, comment, payment agreement, or custom-domain redirect. Only import subscriber information you are entitled to use, and preserve unsubscribe and suppression records. Check the report rather than assuming an uploaded address is an active subscriber.
4. Move when you are ready
Test your new address, newsletter delivery, and any paid subscriptions. A domain change needs DNS configuration; old links need redirects where you control the old address. A content import alone does not complete either step. Keep a backup and tell your readers where to find you before closing the old service.
You can take your work out, too
In your publication’s Audience page, choose Export content & subscribers. It downloads a ZIP containing posts as Markdown and, when newsletter service is enabled, the current newsletter subscriber list as CSV. This export is available on every plan.
The download includes draft posts. Store it securely. It does not bundle media files, comments, payment agreements, or followers on other servers. Check the archive and any linked media against your destination’s requirements. Domain transfers and recurring payments need separate arrangements.
